Tattoo After Care Tips

Leave bandage on for an hour to two. Gently pull bandage off. If it is stuck get the bandage wet. Apply Dial Antibacterial Soap and warm water to the tattoo and rub on in a circular motion. Wash off and pat dry with a clean paper towel (Bounty is the best). Let the tattoo air out for a minute.

Then apply a thin coat of your choice between A & D Ointment, or Barri-Care. Check the tattoo periodically to make sure the tattoo is moist. Make sure you wash the tattoo two to three times a day, only applying ointment once its been washed and dried. NEVER apply ointment on top of pre-existing ointment.

The key to healing the tattoo well is to keep it moist, but make sure your are not over doing it with the ointment (moist, not shiny and wet). For the first three nights you want to bandage the tattoo with a non stick bandage and a little more ointment than you would use during the day. (Due to the fact that the bandage will absorb some of the ointment. If your tattoo is on your arm or your leg you can use plastic wrap instead of a bandage.)

The tattoo may flake and peel, allow it to do so on its own. DO NOT PICK AT IT. You should follow this routine of using ointment for the first three to five days. Once the tattoo has peeled or started to peel, you should start to use hand lotion. (Lubriderm Seriously Sensitive or H2Ocean Lotion are our favorites.) You may apply this as much as desired.
